A look inside the card room, the games on offer and how the tables are run.

Inside the Card Room

Where the Tables Sit

Six tables, each with its own dealer once the room's full, spaced so a rummy hand at one end doesn't drown out the crib count at the other.

The felt gets replaced most years, chips stay in the rack behind the counter until a table calls for more, and nobody's ever run short.

Everything runs on points. Chips buy nothing outside the room and carry no value once the night's done — the count is the whole game.

A dealer's hands fan five hundred cards across the green baize.

Games on Offer

Five hundred, euchre, crib, rummy, canasta, bridge and friendly poker.

House Dealer

Calls every hand at every table, no exceptions made.

No Machines

Not a single gaming machine in the building, only cards and a felt top.
